New Japan Pro Wrestling's Tetsuya Naito told Tokyo Sports earlier this week that WWE offered him a contract a few months ago, but he immediately decided to turn down the offer. Dave Meltzer has since noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Naito was actually one of three NJPW competitors that WWE has sent contract feelers to over the past few months. Although the other two names were not mentioned, Meltzer said that both wrestlers are Japanese and are not members of The Elite, all of whom WWE is already reportedly attempting to sign soon. Most NJPW contracts tend to expire shortly after the promotion's Wrestle Kingdom event takes place in early January, so it will be interesting to see if anybody jumps ship in early 2019.

“The other two [names] that we’re aware of didn’t turn the offers down without thought, although one would be a huge surprise and the other would be a great worker who I didn’t see flourishing in the WWE system, but also probably wouldn’t have any reservations about moving to the U.S. like many of the Japanese might.”  said Meltzer.

Former Universal Champion Roman Reigns announced a few weeks ago that he will be leaving the ring to battle leukemia. Several fans and wrestlers alike are eager to Reigns defeat the disease and return to action, but a new update suggests that this could still be months away from taking place. In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was revealed that Roman has just begun receiving treatment for leukemia. It is unknown what type of treatment Reigns is receiving for his illness, but when it comes to an in-ring return, the report notes that this is considered "a long ways off." Reigns' first public WWE appearance since his announcement will be for a signing at the ACE Comic Con in January, but this too could end up changing.

Although John Cena has missed a significant amount of time away from the ring lately, his film portfolio is seemingly expanding by the minute. The 16-time world champion's newest film project has already been announced. According to Variety, Cena will be starring in the upcoming family comedy, "Playing with Fire." Cena is set to play a firefighter whose team will be challenged once they rescue and look after a group of children. The film will be directed by Andy Fickman, who previously directed films such as Race to Witch Mountain and The Game Plan, both of which starred fellow WWE Superstar Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. As of right now, there is currently no word on a release date for the new movie.
