2018 WWE Mae Young Classic Results: Second Round Concludes

Last night's 2018 Mae Young Classic Tournament opened up with Mauro Ranallo giving us a recap of last week's action in which the second round kicked off with the first four matches. He then announces the four matchups for this week's episode which marks the end of the second round.

Michael Cole, Renee Young & WWE Hall Of Famer Beth Phoenix welcomes us to the show and says that it is time to get the final four matches of the second round underway.

We then get a highlight video of our first matchup of the evening: Io Shirai vs. Zeuxis. Both competitors make their way to the ring and the match begins.

In the first round Shirai blitzed Xia Brookside en route to an easy win, while Zeuxis had a harder go of it, but still defeated Aerial Monroe. Shayna Baszler, Jessamyn Duke & Marina Shafir were at ringside for this bout. The match begins with Zeuxis powering Shirai into the ropes before letting her go free, Shirai quickly knocks Zeuxis out of the ring with a drop kick. Shirai quickly gets Zeuxis back in the ring and Zeuxis drops her on the ring apron. Zeuxis uses a basement drop kick to knock Shirai to the arena floor. Shirai gets back in the ring and Zeuxis focuses her attack on the injured arm of Shirai. Zeuxis holds Shirai down while wrenching away on her arm. Zeuxis traps Shirai in the corner before landing a head kick and running double knee strike for a near fall. Shirai recovers and trips up Zeuxis before landing a handstand double knee strike. Shirai follows up by landing a running double knee strike. Zeuxis rolls out of the ring and Shirai nails her with a suicide dive. Shirai gets Zeuxis back in the ring for a near fall on a pin attempt. Shirai keeps Zeuxis down while applying a cross face. Zeuxis gets free and she hits Shirai with a pump handle michinoku driver for a near fall. Zeuxis then goes to the top rope before missing a moonsault. Shirai then hits Zeuxis with a drop kick before going to the top rope. Zeuxis crotches Shirai before meeting her on the top rope. Shirai fights back and nails Zeuxis with a top rope hurricanrana followed by a double knee strike. Shirai hits Zeuxis with a moonsault for the three count. Shirai will face the winner of the next match in the quarterfinals.
 
We then get a highlight video of the next matchup of the evening: Deonna Purrazzo vs. Xia Li. Both competitors make their way to the ring and the match begins.

Ricochet was at ringside for this matchup. Purrazzo defeated Priscilla Kelly, while Li got the win over Karen Q in their respective first round matches. The match begins with Li and Purrazzo taking turns working over each others arms. Purrazzo scores a takedown on Li and Li quickly applies a head scissors. Purrazzo gets free and she rolls up Li for a near fall. Li gets back up and she nails Purrazzo with a series of strikes. Li drops Purrazzo before landing a leg drop and elbow drop for a near fall. Purrazzo charges at Li and eats a boot to the face. Li then hits Purrazzo with a middle rope thrust kick for a near fall. Purrazzo recovers to drop Li and land a basement drop kick for a near fall. Purrazzo starts focusing her attack on the arm of Li before landing a short arm clothesline. Li fights back and Purrazzo nails her with a knee strike followed by a side Russian leg sweep. Purrazzo goes for a Fujiwara Arm Bar and Li rolls her up to escape. Purrazzo drops Li quickly to regain control. Purrazzo continues wrenching away on the injured arm of Li. Li fights back again and she drops Purrazzo with a drop kick. Purrazzo and Li have a striking exchange in the middle of the ring. Li ends the exchange by nailing Purrazzo with a head kick for a near fall. Li misses a charge to the corner before going to the middle rope. Li leaps off the ropes and Purrazzo catches her in the Fujiwara Arm Bar to force a tap out. Deonna Purrazzo now faces Io Shirai in the quarterfinals.
 
We then get a highlight video of the next matchup of the evening: Tegan Nox vs. Nicole Matthews. Both competitors make their way to the ring and the match begins.
 
Tegan Nox def. Nicole Matthews in a Second Round Match.

Tegan Nox defeated Zatara in the first round, while Nicole Matthews defeated Isla Dawn. The match begins with Matthews distracting Nox before attacking her from behind. Nox fights back and knocks Matthews out of the ring. Nox goes for a dive and Matthews prevents that by landing a right. Matthews traps Nox in the ropes while kicking away at her. Matthews traps Nox in the corner while landing some more strikes. Matthews follows that up by nailing Nox with a running drop kick in the corner for a near fall. Matthews keeps Nox in the seated position while kicking her in the back. Matthews follows that up by nailing Nox with a series of elbow strikes. Matthews holds Nox down while applying the straight jacket hold. Matthews then hits Nox with a northern lights suplex for a near fall. Nox fights back by nailing Matthews with a series of strikes. Nox then drops Matthews in the corner with a headbutt. Nox then hits Matthews with a cannonball followed by the Shiniest Wizard for the three count. Tegan Nox now faces Rhea Ripley in the quarterfinals.
 
We then get a highlight video of the next matchup of the evening: Mia Yim vs. Kaitlyn. Both competitors make their way to the ring and the match begins.
 
Mia Yim def. Kaitlyn via submission in a Second Round Match.
 
The former Impact Knockouts Champion vs The winner of NXT Season 3 & former WWE Diva's Champion. Mia beat fellow Impact alumna Allysin Kay and Kaitlyn polished off Kavita Devi in the first round. The match begins with Yim backing Kaitlyn into the ropes before landing a chop. Kaitlyn recovers and nails Yim with a drop kick to the knee. Kaitlyn follows up by landing a sliding clothesline followed by multiple leg drops for a near fall. Yim rolls into the corner and Kaitlyn nails her with a cannonball for a two count. Kaitlyn slows things down by applying the body scissors to Yim. Yim gets free and Kaitlyn knocks her out of the ring. Yim avoids a sliding Kaitlyn before smashing her knee on the ringside edge. Yim gets back in the ring and she attacks the injured knee of Kaitlyn for a near fall. Yim applies a modified figure four leg lock to a downed Kaitlyn. Yim stands over Kaitlyn while nailing her with a few more strikes. Kaitlyn fights back and attacks Yim with more strikes of her own. Kaitlyn then wrenches away on the injured hand of Yim. Kaitlyn goes for a slam and her injured leg gives out on her. Kaitlyn recovers and nails a charging Yim with a flying shoulder tackle. Kaitlyn attacks Yim with some more strikes before landing a series of slams. Kaitlyn then hits Yim with a modified uranage for a near fall. Kaitlyn goes for a spear and she winds up crashing into the corner. Yim hits Kaitlyn with Sole Food for a near fall. Kaitlyn recovers and she hits Yim on the second pear attempt for another near fall. Yim catches Kaitlyn in a knee bar from out of nowhere and a tap out follows. Mia Yim will now go one-on-one with Toni Storm in the quarterfinals.

We then get a recap of the four matches that just took place along with some hype for next week's quarterfinals to close out the show.
 
That marks the end of the second round of The 2018 Mae Young Classic Tournament. The quarterfinals begin next Wednesday exclusively only on The WWE Network.
