Daniel Bryan may have been cleared to return to the ring earlier this year, but Bryan still has not signed a new contract with the company. Bryan's current deal expires in September, and it is entirely possible that he could be on his way out very soon. During a recent interview with the Gorilla Position podcast, Bryan alerted fans that he is currently negotiating to have a lighter schedule in WWE. Bryan is hoping to earn a schedule of about 50-100 matches per year because he missed his daughter's first birthday earlier this year due to being on the road. Bryan's doctors at the Barrow Neurological Institute also advised that him to work less matches per year than usual if he did return to wrestling. Be sure to stay tuned for the latest updates on Daniel Bryan's WWE status before his deal expires on September 1st.

There has been a lot of back and fourth rumors and reporting concerning Brock Lesnar's next Universal Championship defense. While most fans have assumed that he will be defending the title again at the SummerSlam, a couple of other reports have stated that Lesnar is actually not scheduled to compete at the event this August. WWE has cited contract negotiation issues as the reason why Lesnar has made so few television appearances lately, but that is said to be part of a storyline. According to Brad Shepard, Lesnar will be wrestling at SummerSlam, and he'll also be on Raw the following night. It will be interesting to see if these truly turn out to be Lesnar's final WWE appearances before he returns to UFC.

The next pay-per-view for WWE will be the Extreme Rules show on July 15th. Quite a number of matches for the event have already been announced, including AJ Styles vs. Rusev with the WWE Championship on the line, as well as an Extreme Rules match between Nia Jax and Alexa Bliss for the Raw Women's Championship. With such a great amount of noteworthy matches, it may be difficult to decide which match will close out the event. The latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter has just revealed that the match between Bobby Lashley and Roman Reigns will likely main event Extreme Rules. It is heavily rumored that the match will determine the next number one contender for the Universal Championship.
