Mixed Match Challenge to Return? New Foley Show on WWE Network
Friday, June 29, 2018
Fans may remember WWE launching the Mixed Match Challenge show earlier this year. It was an interesting concept that saw men and women on the WWE roster team up together to compete in a tag team tournament. The show lasted for about twelve weeks with each show running for about twenty minutes, and it also aired live on Facebook Watch after Smackdown went off the air every Tuesday night. In the end, The Miz and Asuka emerged as the winners of the first-ever Mixed Match Challenge tournament, and they were rewarded $100,000 to donate to a charity of their choosing. Although the tournament is over now, it sounds like another installment of the show may not be far off now.
There has not been much word on whether or not WWE considers the Mixed Match Challenge to be a success, but it appears that the answer may have just been revealed by Stephanie McMahon. During an interview with The Drum, McMahon noted that the series achieved over 100 million views and was indeed considered to be a triumph by Facebook. Stephanie also stated that both sides are currently in negotiations to begin a second Mixed Match Challenge in the future, but it is still unclear when or even if the next tournament would be taking place. It will be interesting to see which roster members will get paired up this time around if the Mixed Match Challenge really does come back.
Remember when WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley hosted one of his one-man shows in Full Sail University before WWE uploaded it onto the WWE Network? Several years later, it appears that Foley has been given another special that will be coming to the network within the next few months. PWInsider has reported that Foley just wrapped up one of his shows earlier this week, and that is also featured guest appearances from Jeremy Borash, Dominic Denucci, Daffney, Nita Strauss, and the Pittsburgh dentist who repaired Foley's teeth after his infamous Hell in a Cell match against The Undertaker in 1998. At the end of the show, Borash revealed that the special was being filmed for the WWE Network and that it will premiere after the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view on September 16th.
