Rey Mysterio

WWE and the 2K video game company teased earlier this week that they would both be making a major announcement concerning the upcoming WWE 2K19 video game that will be released later this year. It was already confirmed a few weeks back that Smackdown Superstar and current WWE Champion AJ Styles would be featured on the cover of the video game this year, but that is not the only big surprise that WWE has for their new video game release. Wrestling fans will have the chance to play as a former WWE Superstar and world champion in the WWE 2K19 game, but in order to unlock him, fans are going to have to commit to buying the video game before it is officially released this fall.

It has just been announced that Rey Mysterio is the special bonus character that can be unlocked in WWE 2K19 if fans pre-order the game ahead of time. WWE and 2K have included a special and unique unlockable character for just about every single video game that they have released together over the years. Kurt Angle was included as the pre-order bonus character for the WWE 2K18 video game that was released last year, and Goldberg was included in the 2K17 game that came out the the previous year. WWE typically includes a large roster of past and present WWE performers, but Mysterio's inclusion in the game should definitely help the 2K19 game this year become a major hit.

Rey Mysterio's involvement in WWE 2K19 officially marks Mysterio's first appearance in a WWE video game in four years. He was last part of the WWE 2K15 game, and he had been featured on most video game released in the years before then as well. It is interesting to see Mysterio featured in the game this year given that he has continued to wrestle on the independent circuit and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Mysterio has only made guest appearances on the Royal Rumble and Greatest Royal Rumble pay-per-views this year, but WWE is reportedly still very committed to re-signing him at some point in the future. WWE 2K19 will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 9th.
