Impact Officially Drops Grand Title, Aries, Taiji/Slammiversary
Tuesday, June 5, 2018
It looks like Impact Wrestling has officially dropped the Impact Grand Title as the company has just recently announced and confirmed it. The storyline is that the new Impact Wrestling World Champion Austin Aries is unifying his Impact Wrestling World Title with the Impact Wrestling Grand Title.
Aries won the Impact Wrestling World Title from Pentagon Jr. on last week's episode of Impact Wrestling on Pop TV, and previously won the Impact Wrestling Grand Title from Matt Sydal on the March 29th episode of Impact Wrestling on Pop TV. The Impact Grand Title was created in October 2016 and saw Aron Rex (Damien Sandow) defeat Eddie Edwards in the finals of a tournament to become the inaugural champion. The other Impact Grand Title holders were Moose with two reigns, Drew Galloway (Drew McIntyre), Ethan Carter III (EC3) and Josh Mathews, who was gifted the title by Sydal.
Aries posted the following comments on social media about the Impact Wrestling Grand Championship being no more along with the official announcement from Impact Wrestling:
Although he considers New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) to be his full-time home, Bullet Club's Bone Soldier Taiji Ishimori will be making an exception in July for Impact Wrestling.
Impact Wrestling recently announced that Taiji Ishimori will be working their Slammiversary XVI PPV Event on July 22nd at the Rebel Entertainment Complex in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Below is the announcement of Impact Wrestling on Taiji Ishimori working their Slammiversary XVI PPV Event:
"Fresh off reaching the finals of the prestigious Best of the Super Juniors tournament, we're delighted to announce that former X-Division champion Taiji Ishimori is coming to Slammiversary on July 22nd,"
