RAW Rundown: “The Viper’s Next Victim” (2 March)

Monday Night Raw is live from the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, NY tonight, and is the go-home show to the last stop on the Road to WrestleMania, Elimination Chamber.

Here is what to expect from tonight’s episode.

Perhaps the biggest segment with be the appearance of Beth Phoenix, as she to give a medical update on her husband Edge following the heinous attack at the hands of Randy Orton weeks ago following Royal Rumble. There is little doubt that Phoenix snd Orton will cross paths, and there is every reason to believe that “The Viper” will build more heat heading into his inevitable WrestleMania 36 match against “The Rated-R Superstar” by hitting Phoenix with an RKO.

As far as actual matches go, one that has PPV implications is Shayna Baszler taking on Women’s Tag Team Champion Asuka in what has the potential to be incredible. This appears to be a blatant showcase of Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch‘s most recent and future challengers for her title, as there’s every reason to believe that Baszler will emerge victorious in the #1 Contender’s Elimination Chamber match this Sunday. Regardless, these are two of the best workers in the division, and should they be free of a schmoz finish with the other four competitors from this Sunday’s match, and given room to breathe, could put on a show-stopper.

Additionally, after The OC attacked him backstage prior to his match against Erick Rowan last week, Aleister Black takes on leader AJ Styles. Again, a fresh matchup that has a tonne of potential, but after jobbing to a returning Undertaker in the last fall of the Gauntlet Match for the Tuwaiq Mountain Trophy at Super ShowDown, the chances that this is a longterm feud are low as it appears that “The Phenomenal One” will be taking on “The Deadman” at WrestleMania.

United States Champion Andrade is also back from his suspension “injury” and is set to team with Angel Garza to take on Rey Mysterio and Umberto Carrillo. Garza has done an excellent job filling in for Andrade in his feud, so it will be interesting to see how the bookers more forward with both of them now on the RAW roster. Is this the first stage in a face turn for Andrade as Zelina Vega decides to align herself fully with Garza instead?

WWE Champion Brock Lesnar is also scheduled to appear after (predictably) squashing Ricochet in a title match at Super ShowDown. Tonight will undoubtedly fully set in motion the Lesnar/Drew McIntyre main event for WrestleMania 36 so hopefully there are some fireworks between the two in Brooklyn.

There are also two championship matches scheduled, as Riddick Moss defends his 24/7 Championship, and The Street Profits challenge Seth Rollins & Murphy for the Raw Tag Team Championship “Now or Never” rematch from Super ShowDown. Does the stipulation attached to the match imply that Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins are destined to win the belts tonight? If so, it would be a big moment for the two in front of what is generally a very hot crowd.

It all goes down tonight at 8pm EST live on USA Network!
