SmackDown Sampler

Hello AW Universe,

We’re less than ten days away from Royal Rumble, with Friday Night SmackDown heading through the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina tonight.

Here is a preview of what we can expect.

Roman Reigns and Robert Roode are set to clash in a tables match following the Glorious One’s return from injury* last week, in which he first attempted to drive Reigns through the announce table with a Spinebuster– which may have been botched– then helped King Corbin hold him down as Dolph Ziggler dropped an elbow on him.

This should be a fascinating match, considering that Roode was likely initially booked to play a larger role in this feud before he was sidelined,so what they decide to do with Roode going forward– whether they punish him or not– heading into Royal Rumble and beyond to WrestleMania 36. Reigns and Corbin are already booked for a one-on-one match at Rumble, so Roode will likely be in the match itself, but it’ll be interesting to see if Roode jobs for the rest of the Road to WrestleMania.

Also last week, we were told that Lacey Evans and Sasha Banks would finally meet in the ring after weeks of Banks and Smackdown Women’s Champion Bayley harnessing Evans, taunting her as a wrestler, but mostly her as a mother. But, they kept building the heat but keep Sasha off last week’s episode– she was in L.A. “recording her rap album”– and having Bayley take a beatdown backstage, then dole one out to Evans in the back. At this point, it wouldn’t be the worst thing to keep Banks and Evans apart for another week, building heat right up until Royal Rumble.

John Morrison is back in WWE, making his real, official return last week, attacking The New Day after they crashed “Miz TV” and showing off the skills that have made him such delight to watch from WWE, to Impact, to Lucha Underground by hitting a running Senton off the ring steps on The New Day. Tonight will be Morrison’s first match back in WWE, as he steps into the ring with Big E. Miz’s turn back to being a heel is pitch perfect, and having him and Morrison feud with The New Day– and acknowledging Kofi’s denial of losing his WWE title to Brock Lesnar– is seamless way to bring Morrison back onto WWE television.

Kane is scheduled to appear. There are questions swirling, that as the career leader in Royal Rumble match appearances and and eliminations, whether or not he’ll be entering the 2020 match. But honestly, the real question is whether or not it’ll be Demon or Slacks Kane will be on Greensboro tonight.
