Mr. Nick’s Notes: NXT Edition

In case you’re new to NXT, the show after a Takeover event is usually just an in-depth recap of the event. There’s usually a couple of matches that were taped at the show as well.

Keith Lee starts off this weeks matches. Met him at Axxess this year, he’s massive and a massively nice guy. He takes on “The Finest” Kona Reeves who reminds me of a young Rocky Miavia…as in he’s trying really hard to get his character over with himself. Keith Lee with the win. Bask in his glory

Next up was the in-depth recap of the NXT Womans Championship match between Io Shirai and Shayna Baszler. These are great just for the alternate camera angles of all the big moments. The aftermath of that match sets up a tag match next week between Io Shirai & Candice Lerae v Jessamyn Duke & Marina Shafir.

The NXT Tag Team Title ladder match is recapped with some amazing alternate angles. This match was absolutely brutal in a great way. The Street Prophets are super over with the NXT crowds.

Another recap. This time it’s the NXT North American Title match between Velveteen Dream and Tyler Breeze. Breeze has an “exclusive” interview after. Says he’s not going anywhere, which is great for this NXT fan. I hope he gets to showcase himself again. He’s great when given the chance.

Damian Priest has a hype video for his debut. Looks like a brooding rockstar gimmick. We’ll see.

Mia Yim v Bianca Belair get their rubber match. The last two matches ended with the use of Belair’s braid, should be interesting to see how they use it this match. I said it last week, but these two are two of the best in the now kind of thin womans division. Great match! Fitting it happened at Takeover because they brought it Takeover style. Mia Yim wins after hitting her finisher from the second rope. She’s been getting better every match and now she has arrived in a big way. Get used to her name.

Drew Gulak complains that Kushida took the easy way out of their last match and challenges him to a submission match next week. I can’t wait for another submission move clinic from these two.

Bobby Fish is injured. Colour me surprised.

The incredible NXT Championship match is covered in-depth. If you haven’t seen this match yet and you’re reading I’d be shocked (in my system?) and ask you to please find a way to watch it right now. It’ll go down as one of the best ever NXT matches.

I didn’t mention how cool it is that Johnny Gargano has a different comic character themed ring gear every Takeover. This event saw him wearing Captian Marvel gear. So. Damn. Cool! Anyway, he’s not the champion anymore…Bay Bay!

More matches and less recaps next week!
