Adam Cole Crowned The New NXT Champion At Last Night’s TakeOver

At last night’s NXT TakeOver XXV PPV Event, another championship belt change hands as The Undisputed ERA’s Adam Cole defeated Johnny Gargano in the evening’s main event to become The New NXT Champion. This is Adam Cole’s first time becoming The NXT Champion since debuting with the black and gold brand a few years back.

Johnny Gargano held The NXT Title last when he won it back at The NXT TakeOver: New York PPV Event on April 5th during WWE WrestleMania 35 weekend when the title was vacant. The NXT Title was relinquished by then-NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa on The March 13th NXT TV Tapings which aired on March 20th when it was reported earlier in the month by Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Tommaso Ciampa would have to undergo neck surgery for the injuries he sustained.

Due to Tommaso Ciampa relinquishing The NXT Title, a 2-Out-Of-3 Falls Match between Johnny Gargano and Adam Cole was announced to main-event The NXT TakeOver: New York PPV Event. It was on that show that Johnny Gargano defeated The Undisputed ERA’s Adam Cole to become The NXT Champion. Below is a look on how Adam Cole became The NXT Champion at last night’s show:
