WWE News: Undertaker WrestleMania XXX Status Update and Potential Opponents

Despite two more looming surgeries, WWE legend The Undertaker has reportedly told WWE Chairman Vince McMahon he will be defending the Streak at WrestleMania XXX.

Not only is the Phenom already looking ahead to next year, but also he has two different opponents in mind.

According to a report by Nick Paglino of WrestleZone.com, Undertaker has his sights set on facing one of two multi-time WWE champions for his next WrestleMania match. The report says:

The Undertaker is set for surgeries on his right shoulder and his left hip, but told WWE Chairman Vince McMahon he will indeed be at WrestleMania XXX, and has some ideas for the big event.

"Taker would like to work with either John Cena or Brock Lesnar," a writing team member told WrestleZone exclusively. "Taker also has some ideas regarding The Shield. The whole scenario on Smackdown played out great, and Taker sees big money in those three."

Undertaker giving the WWE the green light for his inclusion at WrestleMania XXX saves both the company and the WWE Universe the headache it went through this year. For months leading up to the big event, the Deadman's status was unclear. Numerous injuries and surgeries nearly forced him to miss WrestleMania 29.

Clearly, Undertaker is not concerned about how his upcoming surgeries will affect his in-ring performance. Reportedly he is in much better shape post-match this year than in previous years, due in part to new workout routines and working smarter matches.

As evidenced from his two matches on Raw and SmackDown, the new formula works and Undertaker feels he'll be ready for next year.

It is interesting to see whom Undertaker wants to face at next year's event. A match with either Cena or Lesnar would be stellar.

A bout with Cena would push the plausibility of the Streak ending to new heights. Cena, arguably the face of the WWE, would be the perfect man to beat the Deadman. Plus, as the biggest full-time star on the WWE roster, such a win would only help to solidify his future Hall of Fame status.

However, an Undertaker vs. Lesnar matchup could potentially make the Phenom's last two bouts with Triple H look like a cakewalk.

Lesnar wrestles a very physical style, which may be hard for Undertaker to match. But if the WWE wants Undertaker to bow out of the sport on a high note, taking the fight to Lesnar would be a great way to go.

The WWE could capitalize on the brief staredown the two shared after Lesnar's losing UFC 121 bout to Cain Velasquez and create an atmosphere of real-life heat between the two.

In today's WWE where kayfabe and reality are blended to the point where they are seemingly inseparable, touching on any possible animosity between the two would only add to the mystique of the match.

Given Lesnar's mainstream recognition, the WWE may be able to generate the same kind of buzz that they did for both WrestleMania matches between The Rock and Cena.

Also interesting to note is Undertaker's reported feelings about The Shield. The recent interactions between Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns with the Phenom have created some spectacular matches.

The Raw matchup between Undertaker and Team Hell No against The Shield left the London crowd chanting, "This is awesome!" Likewise, the clash with Undertaker and Ambrose on SmackDown also ignited the crowd and helped showcase how Shield members may fare in singles competition down the road.

Whatever Undertaker's ideas are for The Shield, hopefully they will include more matches with him and the three men from NXT. It would be nice to the Deadman get another shot at them, perhaps as soon as SummerSlam.

Although, having Undertaker defend the Streak against all three Shield members at the same time would fit what will surely be an epic card for WrestleMania XXX.

It sounds like new life has begun to flow through the Deadman. If his three matches this year are any indication of what he can still do, then Undertaker continuing to lace up his boots is good news for the WWE.
