WWE SmackDown Live Results (06/12): MITB Go-Home Show
Tuesday, June 12, 2018
SmackDown Live opens up from the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee as Tom Phillips welcomes us to the show. He is joined by Corey Graves & Byron Saxton. Commentary then hypes up the show by announcing the matches that will be taking place tonight including Daniel Bryan vs. Shelton Benjamin, Jeff Hardy vs. Shinsuke Nakamura and Rusev vs. Samoa Joe.
We head to the ring as SmackDown General Manager Paige welcomes us to the show alongside the four SmackDown women that will be in the Women's Ladder Match at Money in the Bank. She introduces Lana, Naomi, Becky Lynch, and Charlotte Flair and reminds them that they have the opportunity to change their lives forever with the Money in the Bank briefcase. She puts the RAW women over briefly by saying that she needed the best to counter the best.
Paige then says that she doesn’t care who wins as long as one of them brings the briefcase back to her house. Lana then says that she will bring it home and gets into it with Naomi, jawing back and forth. Naomi then reminds us that she won the battle royal at WrestleMania, and Charlotte says that the only reason she won is that she wasn’t in the match. Charlotte then says that she has done everything there is to do in this business from the NXT Championship on up, but she hasn’t won the contract. Becky then stakes her claim and reminds us of her own credentials, but says that she is sick of saying “I was” and is gonna start saying “I am”, as in “I am gonna be the SmackDown Women’s Champion again.” Charlotte wishes her luck but Lynch says that that has got nothing to do with it, and she’ll go through anyone and everyone to do it, just like she beat her last week.
Naomi reminds her that there is six other women in the match and Becky says she’ll beat them too.
The Iiconics make their way down to the ring. Billie Kay asks Peyton Royce if she’s thinking what she’s thinking, and she says yes, it will take a miracle for these women to bring the briefcase back, but Billie actually meant that the WWE Universe smells kind of funny. They move onto the Peyton Royce Impression Hour, starting with Lynch, then Billie has a crack at doing Charlotte, mocking her propensity to cry when she loses. Naomi cuts them off, but they didn’t forget about her or Lana and they have a mock dance-off.
Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville make their way down to the ring. Mandy calls Paige out and says that she is gonna be disappointed on Sunday because the talent outside the ring is far superior to that inside the ring, which leads to the women inside the ring to hit the floor and we got a brawl.
Commentary recaps Shelton Benjamin’s singles run on SmackDown thus far and we go backstage where Daniel Bryan is warming himself up for his match before sending us to a commercial break.
Back from the commercial break and the Eight-Woman Tag Team Match set up by the opening segment is made official.
Tom Phillips talks about the feud between Daniel Bryan and Big Cass and a promo from earlier in the night is shown where Daniel Bryan points out that Big Cass doesn’t even know how to break his leg and teases the “You’re gonna get your head kicked in” wrist-clutch stomps as the finish for their Money in the Bank Matchup.
Daniel Bryan vs. Shelton Benjamin:
The opening bell sounds and Shelton takes the fight to Daniel with knees and punches. Bryan dodges a shot in the corner and wrestles Shelton down to the mat. Daniel pins for a two count, then picks up Shelton and lays into him with uppercuts. He boots Benjamin in the face, but Shelton ducks the next shot and dumps him out to the ringside floor. Shelton fights with Bryan on the floor and slams Bryan knee-first on top of the announce table. Shelton is now focusing on Bryan's left knee. Back in the ring, Bryan drops Shelton, but he misses a shot off the top rope. Shelton capitalizes with a half Boston crab on Bryan's bad knee. Shelton goes for a German suplex on Daniel, but Bryan lands on his feet and kicks out Shelton's knee. Both men are down now and slow to get to their feet. Bryan is up first and he lays into Shelton with some kicks, then takes him down with a Dragon Screw. Bryan hits the "yes kicks" on Shelton in the corner, then he starts working on Shelton's left knee. Daniel takes things up to the top turnbuckle, but Shelton escapes and knees Bryan in the face. Shelton grabs Bryan on the turnbuckle and hits a superplex off the top for a two count. Shelton looks for a facebuster, but Bryan dodges it and takes Shelton down. Bryan puts on the Yes Lock, but Shelton is able to escape and he puts Bryan back in a half crab on the bad knee. Bryan escapes and applies a heel hook to Shelton, and Shelton taps out.
Winner: Daniel Bryan
After the match, Bryan stands tall and hits the corner to pose as his music chants. Bryan leads the "yes!" chants now.
Commentary promotes the WWE Network and runs down the card for Money in the Bank before showing us a replay of Shinsuke Nakamura beating down
from three weeks ago.
We cut to the locker room where
is getting ready and we go to a commercial break.
Back from the commercial break and Paige is walking backstage when she runs into Asuka, who wants Carmella tonight. Paige says that she can’t do that, but she’ll do her a favor and put her and Carmella into the Eight-Woman Tag Team Match for later on tonight. Asuka agrees and says that it’s good for her and bad for Carmella. Paige rolls up on The Miz next, who is dressed as a referee. He claims that he is up for a movie role about a dog that referees the main event of WrestleMania, and he plays the dog’s mentor. This turns out to be an elaborate pitch to guest referee the match between Rusev and Samoa Joe for later on tonight. Paige tells him that she’s onto him and he gets hot, so she steals his hand goes up line and gives him what he wants.
This is followed by a video package for the feud between WWE Champion
and Shinsuke Nakamura.
Jerry “the King” Lawler makes his entrance. He stops on the stage and introduces WWE Champion
. He tells AJ that he slapped Shinsuke last week like he slapped Andy Kaufman and Styles admits that Shinsuke got under his skin and he lost his cool. AJ then says that for that he should probably apologize, which confuses Lawler until AJ says that he is sorry that he didn’t knock Shinsuke's head off with his fist. AJ then says that this ain’t no playground, it’s the House That
Built, and that’s what men do. AJ then says that they have unwritten rules, and if Nakamura can’t follow those rules, he’ll be disciplined. AJ then says that if he wants to act like a child, AJ will act like a man - the Last Man Standing, and he’ll leave the same way he comes in, as WWE Champion.
We head backstage where The Miz is shown discussing the finer points of being a referee with referee Danilo Anfibio and we go to a commercial break.
Back from the commercial break and we get some more hype for Money in the Bank.
The Miz makes his entrance to be the special guest referee for our next match.
Rusev vs. Samoa Joe:
The opening bell sounds and Joe starts off strong, backing Rusev into the corner with strikes. Rusev fights back and dumps Joe outside, then drops him on the floor. Back in the ring, Joe takes control of the match until Rusev is able to hit a shot in the corner and then the big boot to the face. Joe comes back with the Coquina Clutch, but referee (The Miz) is distracted by
on the apron. This distraction leads to Rusev hitting the kick to the face for the three count.
After the match, Rusev stands tall as his music hits. English goes under the ring and pushes a ladder in. Joe stands up and Rusev runs over him with the ladder. Rusev positions the ladder and climbs up for the briefcases hanging above the ring. Miz pulls Rusev off the ladder and drops him with a Skull Crushing Finale. Miz looks up and climbs. He grabs a briefcase and holds it high, bringing it back to the mat to celebrate with as his music plays. Miz takes the briefcase to the announcers and continue to run his mouth. Saxton opens the case as instructed but it's filled with The New Day's pancakes. Miz throws a fit and yells about the contract not being in there. We see The New Day backstage laughing at Miz. Fans chant for The New Day in the arena.
Commentary hypes up the Ten-Woman Tag Team Match for later on tonight as well as the Jeff Hardy vs. Shinsuke Nakamura Matchup.
We head backstage where we see that Shinsuke Nakamura is getting ready for his match, which will take place right after the commercial break.
Back from the commercial break and we are just in time for the entrances of the next match which is Jeff Hardy vs. Shinsuke Nakamura.
Jeff Hardy vs. Shinsuke Nakamura (Non-Title Match):
The opening bell sounds and Hardy and Nakamura circle each other in the ring. They lock up and Nakamura backs Jeff into the corner. Jeff fights back and Nakamura slides out to ringside. Nakamura dares Hardy to come out and get him, and Hardy obliges. Hardy beats down Nakamura at ringside, then gets back in the ring and hits a suicide dive on Nakamura out on the floor. They fight back into the ring where Nakamura gets back in the game and he drops Hardy on the mat. Hardy fights his way to his feet and hits a jawbreaker on Nakamura. They trade blows until Hardy hits a running forearm shot and then an inverted atomic drop and a dropkick. Hardy is selling a knee injury after the commotion. Jeff hits a kick in the corner, and then he looks for a dropkick in the corner but Nakamura blocks it. Nakamura stuns Hardy and then drops him with a spinning heel kick. Nakamura sets up Jeff in the corner and he charges for a running knee strike, but Jeff dodges it and drops Nakamura. Jeff goes up top and connects with the Whisper In The Wind for a two count. Nakamura fights back and looks for the Kinshasa, but Jeff blocks it and hits the Twist of Fate. Jeff pins but Nakamura gets his foot on the bottom rope, then rolls outside. Jeff rolls out and takes Nakamura back in the ring, then he looks for another Twist of Fate, but Nakamura escapes and hits a low blow. The referee calls for the bell and this one ends in a DQ.
Winner via DQ: Jeff Hardy
After the match, fans boo as Nakamura is all smiles. Nakamura waits for Hardy to get back up and he nails Hardy with the Kinshasa as the boos continue. Nakamura stands tall over Hardy and counts to 10, taunting
for their Last Man Standing Match on Sunday. Some fans count along with Nakamura. Nakamura's music hits and we go to replays as he stands tall.
We head backstage where we see that Carmella is having her makeup applied and tells the artist to take her leave. She goes to take a selfie and Renee Young rolls up to interview her. Young asks her about her match against Asuka on Sunday and if she has any concerns. Carmella says that she has no concerns about Asuka because she’s the champion. Carmella also says that Charlotte Flair beat Asuka and she beat Flair twice, so she’s better than both and completely unconcerned about either of them. Carmella then says that Asuka should be concerned and Asuka should be scared. Carmella ends the interview by saying that she is ready for Asuka because Mella Is Money.
The Ten-Woman Tag Team Match will begin after the commercial break.
Back from the commercial break and we get a hype reel for Stephanie McMahon’s appearance on Undercover Boss this Friday.
We head backstage where Big Cass is being interviewed. He cuts Renee’s question off before she can begin and says that he has it from here. He tells us about his day - he went to the county fair, where they paid him 25 large to open a roller coaster. He pretended to smile, took his pictures, and took their money, but he also took a souvenir, the height requirement chart for the roller coaster. Big Cass then says that he thought they could bond over it, but unfortunately one member of the SmackDown locker room doesn’t meet the requirement, and that’s Daniel Bryan. Big Cass then says that last week he said that a good big man always beats a good little man, and that’s what’s going to happen Sunday. It won’t be a roller coaster, it will be a free-fall drop, and if Bryan tries to come up to his level, he’s gonna come crashing right back down.
Commentary promotes the WWE Network yet again and runs through the Money in the Bank card.
We get the entrances for the main event and we cut to a video package on Special Olympian CJ Pianteri that takes us to a commercial break.
Back from the commercial break and the Ten-Women Tag Team Main Event Matchup begins.
Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Asuka, Naomi & Lana vs. Carmella, Sonya Deville, Mandy Rose, & The Iiconics:
Sonya and Naomi start this one off and they trade strikes early on. Naomi takes Sonya down with a hurricanrana, and then tags in Lana. Lana hits an elbow to the face in the corner, and then a neckbreaker for a two count. Sonya hauls Lana back to her team's corner and she tags in Carmella. Carmella starts beating on Lana, but she misses the Bronco Buster in the corner. Becky gets the tag and she drops Carmella with a spinning heel kick. She hits another kick on Carmella, and then a flying clothesline. Becky follows up with a t-bone suplex on Carmella for a two count. Peyton Royce tags in and drops Becky with a kick to the face, and then Billie Kay tags in and continues the offense on Becky. The heels take turns tagging in and double-teaming Becky now. Becky tries to mount a comeback, but Sonya spears her down for a two count. Billie tags in and puts Becky in a head lock. Becky comes back with an enziguri, and Charlotte gets the tag. Charlotte cleans house and takes out everyone except for Carmella, who got out of the way. Charlotte spears Peyton Royce down next, then she goes up top. Carmela tries to interfere, but Charlotte kicks her away. Charlotte goes for a moonsault off the top, but Peyton blocks it with her knees. Mandy Rose gets the tag and starts beating on Charlotte, then Sonya tags in for the double team. Charlotte escapes them and tags in Asuka. Asuka hits a missile dropkick off the top on Mandy. Mandy fires back with some elbows to the face, but Asuka is able to take her down and she applies the Asuka Lock. The heels run in to break it up, then the babyfaces run in and this one breaks down to a brawl all over ringside. Charlotte moonsaults off the top onto The Iiconics at ringside, as Mandy and Sonya take out Becky. Naomi then hits a splash off the apron on Sonya. Back in the ring, Asuka drops Mandy, and then Carmella drops Asuka. Carmella pin, but Lana breaks up the pin. Carmella turns around and looks for the superkick on Asuka, but Asuka dodges it. Carmella rolls up Asuka, but Asuka escapes and applies the Asuka Lock. Carmella taps out, and Asuka's team wins this one.
Winners: Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Asuka, Naomi & Lana
After the match, the winners stand tall and celebrate as we go to replays. Carmella backs up the ramp with the title in her hand as the winners embrace in the ring. Asuka's music stops as the winners look around at each other, then up at the MITB briefcases hanging above the ring. Asuka's music starts back up as everyone continues looking around. SmackDown goes off the air.
