Rich Swann Returns, Nigel McGuinness Update, Stanford Wins Emmy
Sunday, April 15, 2018
Rich Swann made history in WWE when he won the Cruiserweight Championship from The Brian Kendrick in the main event of the first episode of 205 Live. Swann continued to wrestle in the cruiserweight division until WWE released him earlier this year due to a domestic violence incident involving Swann and his wife. Swann revealed afterwards that he would be retiring from professional wrestling, but the former 205 Live star just made a surprise appearance during Combat Zone Wrestling's show over the weekend. Swann was greeted by "welcome back" chants from the crowd, and CZW announced on social media afterwards that Swann has been added to the their Best Of The Best tournament.
After impressing WWE officials during last year's United Kingdom Championship tournament, the company added Nigel McGuinness to the commentary teams for NXT and 205 Live. McGuinness has provided stellar commentary for WWE's developmental brand with Mauro Ranallo and Percy Waton every Wednesday night, but the British announcer was mysteriously absent from commentary during this week's 205 Live show. The reason for Nigel's disappearance has just been revealed: the announcer celebrated the birth of his first child. Amelia McGuinness was born earlier this week and WWE decided to give her father some time off to be with his family and new daughter. Nigel should be back behind the announcer's table again very soon.
Another one of WWE's announcers is Scott Stanford. Stanford has been working for WWE ever since the year of 2009, and he currently serves as the host for the "This Week in WWE" series on the WWE Network every week. In addition to his work with WWE, Stanford continues to serve as a host for the morning show in New York. Stanford's show just received a major honor last night as he won an Emmy Award for “Best Morning Show” during the New York Emmy Awards ceremony. Stanford thanked his fans online after winning the award, as well as the other staff members who work with him each morning. WWE also congratulated Stanford on his award win last night.
