Mixed Match Challenge To Be Aired on The WWE Network in UK
Saturday, January 13, 2018
WWE's Mixed Match Challenge will be debuting on Facebook Watch immediately following this coming Tuesday night's episode of SmackDown Live. As previously mentioned, the tournament will feature twelve teams competing in a single elimination format. The only exception will be the semi-finals, in which fans will vote for a team to have a second chance. The winning team will earn $100,000 for the charity of their choosing.
As previously reported, Below are the teams that will be competing in the tournament:
- Finn Balor & Sasha Banks
- Shinsuke Nakamura & Natalya
- The Miz & Asuka
- Big E & Carmella
- Braun Strowman & Alexa Bliss
- Sami Zayn & Becky Lynch
- Goldust & Alicia Fox
- Jimmy Uso & Naomi
- Rusev & Lana
- Elias & Bayley
The tournament will run for 12 weeks and each episode will last for 20 minutes long. This would mean that the finale will be on Tuesday, April 3, which is just days after WrestleMania 34. 205 Live is scheduled to air after the Mixed Match Challenge.
According to the Daily Mirror, the Mixed Match Challenge will air exclusively on the WWE Network for the UK audience. This is due to Facebook Watch being unavailable in the United Kingdom.
Mixed Match Challenge will be spearheaded by former NXT and current SmackDown Live writer Ryan Ward, who pitched the idea to have it aired on Facebook Watch as he was aware that UFC ran fights on Facebook before. His idea was approved by executives and it is said that neither Vince McMahon nor Kevin Dunn will be heavily involved in this tournament.
