Two New Mixed Match Challenge Teams, Jericho's Next NJPW Match
Monday, January 8, 2018
The Mixed Match Challenge will see male and female superstars of the WWE roster team up as they face off in mixed tag team action. The show is set to premiere on Facebook Watch starting on January 16th immediately after Smackdown goes off the air. Several teams have already been announced for the show, and the latest teams were announced earlier today. It was confirmed by WWE recently that Alicia Fox and Goldust will be teaming up for the show. The bizarre wrestlers have never teamed up before, so it should be interesting to see just how far in the tournament the unusual pairing of these two veteran WWE performers will go.
Alicia Fox and Goldust were announced as a team earlier today, but that was not the only team that was confirmed recently. It was also announced that The Miz will be partnering with Asuka for the upcoming show. The Miz has been out of action for a few weeks now due to filming commitments for a new movie, but he will be returning to the ring later on tonight, and he is now confirmed to be wrestling in the Mixed Match Challenge with the undefeated Asuka. Other teams that have been announced for the new show include Nia Jax & Apollo Crews, Jimmy Uso & Naomi, Charlotte Flair & Bobby Roode, Braun Strowman & Alexa Bliss, and Rusev & Lana.
Not only was is shocking to see Chris Jericho return to New Japan Pro Wrestling earlier this year, but fans believe that he delivered during his match against Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 12. As a result, Jericho is sticking around with New Japan for a little while. He attacked Tetsuya Naito during the New Year's Dash event, perhaps signaling that a match between the two is forthcoming. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the current plan is for Jericho to take on Naito in March when New Japan returns to the United States for their Strong Style Evolved show. The event takes place at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California on March 25th
