WWE NXT Results - December 6th, 2017
Thursday, December 7, 2017
NXT was back in Full Sail University, so no more weird live events being broadcasted for right now. Instead, the show was back in Florida for the first time since NXT Takeover: WarGames, and the buildup for the next Takeover show in Philadelphia has already begun.
William Regal appeared in his office and informed the NXT audience that a tournament consisting of eight men will eventually lead to the competitors fighting in a Fatal 4-Way match. The winner of the latter match will become the new number one contender to Andrade "Cien" Almas' NXT title. Trent Seven and Killian Dain will face each other tonight with the winner earning a spot in the 4-way. Although The Velveteen Dream had been scheduled to face Kassius Ohno in another qualifying match, Regal said that he had to be taken out and replaced due to injuries he received at Takeover: WarGames.
Speaking of, Andrade Almas and Zelina Vega came down to the ring in their first appearance since Almas won the title at Takeover. Vega bragged about Almas winning the title and Almas then did the same. For several minutes, Almas went to each side of the crowd to remind them that he won the title. Almas's English is not the best, but he still made his point. Again, he bragged about winning the championship, as well as injuring
. He said he did not care about what he did to Drew and promised to hold the title for a long time.
Lars Sullivan appears outside the building for an interview. He is asked about Roderick Strong, to which Lars replies that he is tough and good looking. He even says that Strong could be put on the cover of a magazine. Sullivan said that Strong may talk about his family but he has no family. All that he cares about is winning, and he vowed to win the tournament and become NXT Champion in Philadelphia.
Trent Seven vs. Killian Dain -
Before the match, it was revealed that Trent Seven actually won a battle royal during an NXT live event in Lakeland, Florida in order to compete in this match against Dain. By the end of this match, Seven probably wished he would have tossed himself out of the ring in that battle royal, because he was demolished in this match.
Seven charged after Dain with full force immediately after the bell sounded. Dain blocked his offense and began to violently punch him in the corner of the ring. He began to crush Seven's head in front of the Full Sail audience, but Seven did briefly begin to fight back by giving Dain a DDT. Seven went for his signature lariat until Dain blocked the maneuver and hit the Divide for a near fall.
Trent was able to hit the Seven Star Lariat for a two count, but that was pretty much where his luck ended. He tried to lift up the enormous wrestler, but Dain instead picked him in a Fireman's Carry and slammed him down to the canvas. Dain hit a senton and a Vader Bomb to earn a spot in the Fatal 4-Way match.
Winner: Killian Dain
Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, and Kyle O'Reilly appeared backstage in a segment with their music playing in the background and multiple camera angles. It was a bit reminiscent of the old NWO promos, all that was missing was the black and white filter. Anyway, the group bragged about winning the WarGames match. Cole then vowed to defeat Aleister Black next week, and Fish and O'Reilly promised to defeat SAnitY for the NXT Tag Team Championships soon as well.
Sonya Deville vs. Ruby Riott -
Perhaps the final NXT match for both of these competitors now that they are on the main roster, this was the blowoff match between these two ladies. It was contested as a No Holds Barred match.
Deville took Ruby down early in the match with a gutwrench suplex. Riot attempted to pin Deville early with a roll up, but she was only able to get a one count on Deville. They punch each other in the corner for a bit until Deville gets the upper hand when she gives Riott a snap suplex.
Ruby tried to go for a kick, but that was the beginning of the end for her in this match as Sonya managed to catch her foot and put her in an ankle lock. Ruby took her time struggling to get the ropes, but since this is a No Holds Barred match, Sonya had no reason to break the hold. She applied it even tighter, but Ruby was eventually able to fight out of the hold. She grabbed onto her leg in pain as soon as she was alone in the ring.
Riott did get back into it with some punches, at least until Deville then countered with a leaping lariat. Sonya then began to wear Riott down. Once again, Ruby punched back and tried to get build some momentum back up. She gave her a knee and Deville ran into a back elbow.
At this point, it was Sonya who needed a chance to recover, so she went outside. This allowed Ruby to perform a TOPE SUICIDA through the bottom and middle rope on Sonya. Normally, one would think that Ruby was able to turn the match in her favor. Somehow, this had the exact opposite affect as Sonya got back into the ring first and locked Ruby in a triangle. Refusing to tap out, Ruby took a nap instead.
The crowd was mostly dead for this match, but now these two will have the chance to dominate the main roster, so good for them.
Winner: Sonya Deville
Ember Moon appeared backstage to talk about her NXT Women's Championship win in Houston when in walked Peyton Royce and
. They reminded Ember that Peyton was not the one who Ember pinned in the title match, so they believe Royce deserves another shot at the title. Ember allowed the two of them to argue briefly over which of them will face her next week. After some debate, both agreed that Royce will take on Moon.
Tyler Bate will challenge "The Bruiserweight" Pete Dunne in two weeks. They reaired a video package introducing the two of them, and they included highlights of their match from the finals of the UK Championship Tournament.
A vignette showing a shadowy figure slowly approaching the camera aired. It was unclear who this person was, but a message simply reading "SOON" was shown with two spades in the place of the Os.
Johnny Gargano vs. Kassius Ohno -
Surprise! It's Johnny Wrestling himself taking the place of the Velveteen Dream in this match. The crowd went nuts as Johnny made his way down to the ring. Before he and Ohno even touched, the Full Sail crowd was into the match. They shook hands and the match got underway.
Ohno slammed Johnny down instantly and had the advantage over him for most of the beginning stages of the match. They ran and charged after each other with arm drags and tackles as they each proved that they are very evenly-matched. Once again, the crowd was very into this.
Kassius blocked an early attempt at a slingshot spear from Gargano. He exposed the knee and gave Johnny a kneedrop across the face. Gargano would try to fight back occasionally, but Ohno was usually able to use his kicks, strikes, or height to counter his offense most of the time. The first time came when Gargano gave Ohno some strikes before a big boot sent him down to the canvas.
Ohno kicked and hit the jaw of Johnny Gargano several times during this match, including when he performed a knee strike to the jaw. Gargano hit Ohno with a loud slap, to which Ohno responded by hitting him with a forearm for a two count.
The match then began to go in Johnny's favor just a little bit when he was able to get the knees up and block an incoming senton from Ohno. A kick from Gargano sent Ohno to the outside of the ring. When he came back in, Gargano finally hit his slingshot spear successfully, but it was still not enough to get him the victory.
Gargano attempted another kick, but Ohno was sent back down again before being crushed with Ohno's senton. Gargano crawled to the ring apron and hoisted himself back up before Ohno delivered a MASSIVE kick to Johnny's face. This kick sent so much saliva out of Gargano's mouth that I reckon you'd be able to nearly fill up an empty cup if you managed to catch it all. Ohno then went for a dive, but Gargano was able to run back into the ring at lightning speed as Ohno crashed on the ground. He dived onto Ohno, hitting an impressive DDT on him in mid air!
A step-up enzuigiri on Kassius had little effect on him as he was able to nail Gargano with the Cyclone Kick immediately after the maneuver. He got a near fall on Gargano, but this motivated him to lift his smaller opponent up for the Electric Chair. Johnny elbowed him and fought out of the move before he could hit it on him, and he nearly ended the match with a roll up until Ohno was able to kick out at two.
Another bicycle kick and a lariat from Ohno got him a near fall on Johnny. Now with both men inflicting about an even amount of damage on the other, Ohno dug down for something that would end the match for sure. Convinced he would win, Ohno rolled up his sleeves and went for a Rolling Elbow. Astoundingly, Gargano countered with the headscissors before locking Kassius into the GargaNo Escape. After some hesitation, Ohno eventually tapped out, giving Gargano the chance to participate in the upcoming Fatal 4-Way match.
Winner: Johnny Gargano
After the match, Ohno went to leave until Gargano called for him to come back into the ring. He hopped up on the apron and they both bopped elbows in a sign of sportsmanship. The crowd applauded both men as the announcers put the match over extremely strong as the show went off the air. It was definitely a fun match that is not to be missed.
Next week is a special edition of NXT as it will be the first time ever that NXT airs on the USA Network. It's part of a tradition of USA airing WWE programming once a day for a week in December. Remember, the WWE Network won't be hosting NXT next week, it will be on national television instead. Interestingly, the last time NXT was on television was when it was still a reality game show. Sometimes nostalgia is needed in wrestling, so perhaps we'll see joke-offs and Eli Cottonwood once again next Wednesday. One can only hope. I'll see you NXT time!
