Triple H Comments on Protests During The National Anthem
Thursday, October 5, 2017
For a couple of weeks now, players from different kinds of sports began protesting during The National Anthem.
Just recently, Colin Kaepernick took a knee during the national anthem as a silent protest against racial injustice and he inspired some other players to follow him. The protests became more widespread and gained tremendous media attention two weeks ago after President Donald Trump released his controversial comments on the situation in which he referred to the players who protested as "sons of bitc**s." The protests have now become a major reason of division among the people and its nation, as the players have been accused of disrespecting The American flag.
Just as NFL players continued to protest during the national anthem, Triple H was interview by Express in The U.K. and he spoke about how protests would be handled in The WWE.
Triple H said that while he personally wouldn't protest during The National Anthem himself, The WWE respects the rights of others to do so. Below are the highlights of the interview:
On if he would kneel during the National Anthem: “I speak for myself, personally only, and if it was me I would stand for my national anthem. For my country I would stand. But I and WWE certainly respect the rights of everybody’s first amendment right of freedom of speech, their right to peacefully protest and do what is meaningful to them. Certainly we support that.”
On the protest itself: “I question whether there would be a better way to do that, that maybe wouldn’t offend others or something else. Surely we respect that line.”
Other wrestlers have also discussed the possibility of protests during The National Anthem in The WWE. Just last week, Austin Aries said that he believes wrestlers would toe the line out of fear of losing their job. Sean Waltman also pointed out that wrestlers are usually in the locker room when The National Anthem is played prior to an event. Here is the interview Austin Aries had last week with The Tomorrow Show with Sam Roberts or you can watch it below.
