INDY NEWS: “Big Vito J LoGrasso” Asks: Would You Take a Knee For CTE
Wednesday, October 4, 2017
Sports such as Football have afforded Athletes a platform to voice concerns and advocate for themselves, peers and even people outside of sports who are suffering from sickness or injustice. They can do this because they are organized and Unionized. In Wrestling our experiences are vastly different. We have no Health Benefits, 401k and no Retirement Plan. Simply put we have no Job Security! As a result it is more difficult to speak up for yourself because of all of the risk. People who work for major Wrestling companies run the risk of losing their push, being fired and worst of all being blackballed in the entire industry!
Nonetheless there comes a point in life where you must fight for what you know is right. Today I fight for my fellow wrestlers who despite giving their bodies and entire lives to entertain the world, have nonetheless been mistreated. Today I’m going to delve specifically into a subject that is Taboo in the Wrestling Industry; CTE.
The subject of CTE and all that goes with it from the research and the dramatic effect it has on your life comes into play. If you work for a Major Company, would you speak out and take a knee before your match to protest your rights for a better Work Environment, Health Benefits, A Union, or better yet CTE in Wrestling. If there was a National Anthem before a wrestling show, would you take a knee for this or the things that you believe in? If you worked for a major company and before the show went on, go to the entrance way and take a knee for these things you believe in? Would you stand tall for your beliefs? Would you be that Superstar who takes the lead like Lebron? Could your views be taken in a way that delivers that clear cut message to the fans, the media, the world, but most of all, the company for which you work for?
The answer in wrestling is NO.
We have no voice, no job security and no say because we don't have things in place to speak up for ourselves. It is a controlled environment filled with YES men and women. The only way to be heard is if you're not under a banner and you're not under control by anyone. Will there ever be a Major Superstar to take the lead ?
CTE in wrestling is a very real and serious disease that affects countless lives. There is litigation going on today with many facts that prove just how REAL CTE is. If you're a wrestler today, do you take all the proper care and precaution to ensure you will be protected? Are there medical teams at the events ready to assist you if something goes wrong? Do companies tell you the risks and inform you of the programs in place in case you're hit with a serious concussion?
Who will take care of your medical bills ? Who will care for your family ? Will they supplement your income if you cannot wrestle for months? How will all of this impact your family?
In wrestling, speaking your mind is often taboo and many look down on you for doing so. They don't want to hear your gripes only the word YES. People in the industry who believe in remain silent because they fear the backlash. There are some who’ve stood up and are fighting for all of our rights, but we need many more.Behind the scenes so many agree with much that I have written but because they are hoping for that one last PAYDAY, they don’t speak out in public. Most will wait the rest of their lives waiting for that last call from the major company and unfortunately that call never comes. Meanwhile they are suffering the effects of major injuries including CTE.
Remember back when Kevin Nash took a stand for all the boys in WCW at Monday Nitro? He helped the boys make more money and spoke up for their rights. In his own way he took that KNEE! I learned something from him; Speak your mind! Imagine if more of us were like Nash?
I Vito J. Lo Grasso am TAKING THAT KNEE FOR CTE. If you want to learn more about CTE and the WWE Concussion Lawsuit You can read the updates from Konstantine Kyros.and keep informed here:
