Superstars Comment on GFW News, Update on El Patron & VKM Returns
Thursday, September 7, 2017
As noted, Sports Illustrated reported that Global Force Wrestling is reportedly "hemorrhaging money" at the moment. The issues in the company have reportedly gotten so out of hand that Anthem Sports & Entertainment are prepared to no longer serve as owners of the promotion, though it was reported that Jeff Jarrett is actually the owner of the GFW name, not Ed Nordholm. As you could've guessed, Reby and Matt Hardy commented on the news, and Reby fired back after news about their digital expansion was later revealed. Key GFW member Dutch Mantell also commented on the rumors by seemingly dismissing them altogether.
One of the biggest issues that GFW has run into this year since rebranding themselves is all of the controversy surrounding Alberto El Paton. He was suspended and stripped of the GFW title after an incident at an Orlando airport. After being cleared of any wrongdoings, Patron still remains suspended. PWInsider is now reporting that Alberto's debut and push in GFW was largely a move made by Jeff Jarrett, who was announced to be taking a leave of absence recently. Ed Nordholm reportedly is not as keen on Patron as Jarrett is, so it seems likely that if Jarrett is out of the picture in GFW, then so is Alberto El Patron.
Shane McMahon was suspended in storyline by the orders of his own father on this week's Smackdown show. It was announced that Vince McMahon would be returning to the show next week to address his decision to suspend his son for laying his hands on Kevin Owens. WWE announced that the WWE Chairman is set to appear on Smackdown for the first time in several months to talk about what is going on between his son and Kevin Owens. Owens threatened to sue WWE and the entire McMahon family when Shane attacked him during the show. The appearance from Vince may end up leading to the announcement of the rumored match between Owens and Shane at Hell in a Cell.
