Update on Huge Rumored Match for WWE Superstar Braun Strowman
Saturday, August 12, 2017
One of the biggest success over the past year has been the rise of Braun Strowman as a true WWE star. Strowman managed to go from being a background player in The Wyatt Family faction to a serious top title contender on his own. One match that fans have been clamoring to see is a world title match involving Strowman and the current champion Brock Lesnar. Strowman will be part of the Fatal 4-Way match at SummerSlam that involves Lesnar, as well as Samoa Joe and Roman Reigns. Despite this, fans have been wanting to see a singles match between the two giants for months now, and it looks like it might be a possibility.
Not long after Strowman won the title at Wrestlemania earlier this year, WWE did have plans to have Strowman wrestle Lesnar for the title. At the time, the belief was that the match was either going to be taking place at Great Balls of Fire or SummerSlam. Those plans were apparently changed when "The Monster Among Men" suffered an elbow injury in a match against Roman Reigns. After Lesnar's originally one-off match with Samoa Joe impressed audiences and backstage officials, the company decided to postpone the singles match between Braun and Brock. It looks like WWE is still definitely heading in that direction though.
The Wrestling Observer Radio show featured Dave Meltzer discussing the Fatal 4-Way match at SummerSlam. During this, Meltzer revealed that WWE does still have plans to do a singles match between Strowman and Lesnar one day. Meltzer expects the match to happen sometime around the end of the year or at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view in January. If the match does indeed take place soon, Meltzer also stated that Samoa Joe would likely get pinned in the SummerSlam match in order to protect Roman and Braun. Whether the Universal Championship will be on the line in the match was not actually specified though.
