Spoiler on John Cena's SummerSlam Opponent
Tuesday, August 8, 2017
Ever since John Cena returned to WWE a few months back, some have been wondering what he will be doing at this year's SummerSlam show. At first, most assumed that the All-American hero would face and defeat Jinder Mahal at the event to win his 17th world championship in WWE, but those plans were obviously changed as Shinsuke Nakamura is going to be wrestling Mahal at the pay-per-view. It looks like we may have an idea of who Cena could be wrestling on the second biggest WWE event of the year now, and it certainly seems likely that the match will be made official later on tonight during Smackdown on the USA Network.
Despite the pay-per-view being less than two weeks away, one of the biggest stars in WWE today still does not have a match set for the show. According to PWInsider though, John Cena is going to be wrestling on the show, and he is going to be having his first ever match against Smackdown's rising star Baron Corbin. It makes sense seeing as how Corbin attacked Nakamura last week but was saved by Cena, and he ended up putting Corbin through the announce table on last week's edition of Smackdown. A match between both Corbin and Cena has been rumored recently, and definitely looks like WWE will indeed be going in that direction.
The match could be an interesting one if Corbin actually manages to defeat Cena at the show this summer. As we all know by now, John Cena did return to WWE this year as a "free agent," but he still hasn't appeared on Raw yet. However, he is advertised for most episodes of Raw following SummerSlam, and he is also advertised for the upcoming No Mercy Raw-exclusive pay-per-view later this fall. Could Baron Corbin actually defeat John Cena and send him over to the other brand for a while as a result? We'll have to wait and see, but expect the SummerSlam match between the two of them to be made official very soon.
