Upcoming Plans for WWE and Universal Titles Possibly Revealed
Thursday, April 13, 2017
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter has come forward with some news regarding some future storylines for the Universal and WWE Titles in the upcoming months. Obviously, the "House of Horrors" match has been moved up from Backlash to Payback and is said to be the blowoff for the Orton/Wyatt feud. After the match with Wyatt, Randy Orton is expected to feud with Baron Corbin for the championship. Kevin Owens and AJ Styles will face off for the U.S. Championship, while Shinsuke Nakamura will likely get himself started on the main roster by feuding with Dolph Ziggler.
On the red brand, however, don't expect to see any matches for the top title any time soon. Brock Lesnar won the Universal Championship from Goldberg at Wrestlemania, and is not expected to be back until the summertime. In the meantime, WWE will likely continue to push Braun Strowman as he is rumored to face Lesnar for the title at an upcoming pay-per-view (likely Bad Blood or SummerSlam).
These plans could change at any time and none of them have been confirmed as definite just yet. The Observer also notes that the plans to have Roman Reigns face Brock Lesnar in the main event of Wrestlemania 34 next year are still on. Those plans are likely going to remain intact unless something drastic were to happen to change the minds of the higher-ups in the company.
